With the winter weather season underway, I would like to clarify District 100 policies on weather related closures, late starts, and early releases.
When the decision is made to have a weather-related closure:
Local television stations will be notified
The School Messenger system will alert all staff and parents of the weather emergency via phone and email
District Social Media accounts will post the information
The school district will cancel school altogether and will not utilize a late start for the first day of inclement weather this winter season. Late starts will be used after this as deemed appropriate.
Canceling school because of inclement weather is the Superintendent’s decision to make, and I communicate with my leadership team to make the best decision for our students.
While there is no official temperature that closes school, we take into consideration things such as wind chills, road conditions, and transportation limitations. The decision to close school is made as early as possible, typically very early in the morning, based on the weather information made available at that time. When school is cancelled, a determination is made at that time regarding canceling after school activities as well.
