Students at Belvidere High School kicked off the start of the second semester with a special surprise.
The start of 2017 brought more than just the begining of a new semester. It was a pep rally, of sorts, to help them get focused to achieve great things. They watched a slide show presentation about showing empathy, setting goals and being good examples.
The event also included a special video featuring the school's #mynorm series. The series features students and graduates of BHS that show what makes them unique, highlights their passions and their authentic self.
The video that was shown during the assembly showcased 17-year-old BHS Junior Edward Baeza. He was a contestant on Univision's "La Banda." In the video, Baeza shared his story of how he auditioned for "La Banda," and how his education and aspirations helped shape who he is today.
After the video, Baeza made a surprise appearance and took the stage to sing a song for the student body.
