Vietnam Veterans Loren Salzman and Barney Spencer spent some time at Central Middle School and Mrs. Nash's 8th grade class talking to students.
Salzman was drafted into the war in May of 1967, he was only 19 year old. He left for Vietnam in December of that same year. Salzman served with the Mobile Riverine Force, D Company, 4th Battalion of the 9th Infantry Division’s 47th Infantry. He was based at Dong Tam in the Mekong Delta.
Spencer received his draft notice in the summer of 1966, stayed in the US and finished his tour of duty. He worked for a computer company for the next 30 plus years. Since retirement, Spencer spends his time volunteering for VietNow and the American Legion.
