Physical Education

Important Links

Did you know that Illinois was the first state in the nation to require daily physical education for all students?

As the ISBE website explains, "enhanced P.E. correlates directly to the health and well-being of students for the rest of their lives and has cognitive benefits, too, making students more receptive to learning."  At CMS, we firmly believe that regular physical activity contributes to good health as well as social and emotional well being.  Students should be physically active for at least 60 minutes daily.  Our mission for  students in physical and health education is:

  • To develop lifelong habits , skills and knowledge to be physically fit
  • To access and analyze accurate information for decisions that promote wellness

Health

Every student at BCMS will receive six weeks of Health Education during 6th, 7th and 8th grade.  This fulfills the state requirement of 18 weeks total.  PE classes are rotated through a six week Health class rotation and returned to their PE instructor at the conclusion of these weeks.  This 2019-20 school year the rotation is as follows:

  • 1st section (8/20/19 to 9/27/19) - Downey
  • 2nd section (9/30/19 to 11/8/19) -  Letsinger
  • 3rd section (11/11/19 to 12/20/19) - Huetson
  • 4th section (1/6/20 to 2/14/20) - Moderhack
  • 5th section (2/18/20 to 4/3/20) - Loner
  • 6th section (4/6/20 to 5/22/20) - Nelson

Winter/spring dates may adjust due to weather emergency days.
